Parenting Slump? Family POWER Meeting to the Rescue—Part One

Parenting Slump? Family POWER Meeting to the Rescue—Part One

Do you ever find yourself caught in a parenting slump? You know, when it feels like the weight of the world rests on your shoulders; but your last ounce of creativity just flew out the window. How do you get unstuck? Try harnessing the energy of the Family POWER Meeting.

If you’re a longtime listener of the podcast then you’ve heard me use the term Family POWER Meeting before. I think it’s one of the most effective tools a family can use to foster better, more open communication. (And you know I’m all about open, honest communication!) But a Family POWER Meeting is more than that. It’s an energy booster, a problem solver, a solution generator, and effective crisis control.

It’s basically a communication workhorse. And I want you to harness its power and implement it into your own parenting routine.

The Family POWER Meeting

The concept is pretty straightforward. Still, it deserves more than one episode. So this week, I will unpack exactly what a Family POWER Meeting is with an example from my own home. And next week I will talk about when to call a Family POWER Meeting and how to make it a success!

In this episode:

  • Regroup and recharge. Get everyone in the family to participate with ideas and comments to solve an issue or problem together.
  • POWER is an acronym that stands for: Purpose; Outcomes; Win-win; Engagement; & Resolutions. Power also denotes the energy and strength that comes from family.
  • Every person needs to feel they are seen, heard, and loved. When kids contribute to solving problems they learn that their opinions are valued and trusted.

Thanks for listening! If you enjoyed the show, please leave a positive review or tell a friend!

Episode challenge

Take some time this week to consider how you could plan and prepare for a Family POWER Meeting. If this is a new concept for your family you might like to wait until next week when I discuss tips for a successful Family POWER Meeting before trying it out.
