Every mom is amazing! There’s no question there. Yet, we are often our own worst critic. When things don’t go according to plan, the negative self-talk comes flooding in. So, how can we start to believe in ourselves again? And how can building mom confidence change the dynamic we have with our kids and their tech?
In this episode, I ask Leah Davidson, co-founder of H&L Life Coaching, what to do when we feel like we’re not thriving. We take a fresh look at what confidence means. And how that applies to raising kids in a media-saturated, pandemic stricken, year of virtual school, kind of world!
Our chat was inspired by a conversation I had with another sweet mom. She admitted that navigating a year of virtual school has taken its toll. The battle between homework and screen time feels relentless. She’s worried that her best efforts to keep her crew on track are never going to be enough. The self-doubt has crept in and she’s begun to wonder if there’s something wrong with her—that maybe she wasn’t cut out for this.
So many of us can relate, I’m sure. Let’s see what we can do to bring the confidence back!
Building mom confidence
Leah has worked with plenty of moms over the years to help them cultivate inner strength and confidence to create a life that they truly love.
In this episode:
- Confidence is an inside job. Moms often mistakenly measure their personal success against the behavior or achievements of their children.
- Embrace ALL of you. Personal flaws and weaknesses should be honored alongside individual gifts strengths. You are the whole package.
- Overwhelmed by kids and tech? Take a deep breath. Confidence is admitting you don’t have all the answers, but are still willing to ask questions and set boundaries.
- Modeling confidence. When we accept ourselves for who we are, it shows our children that they can make mistakes, pick themselves up, and still achieve great things.
Episode challenge
Leah challenges moms to write their own guide to success. Start by making a list of things you want to be based on your values, thoughts, and personal ambition. Next, write a list of things you think you should be based on cultural or social expectations. Listen to the full episode to see what stays on each list and what goes. The goal is to build mom confidence, measuring your success according to your own values—not external pressures.
